Public transport
Venice’s public transportation differs from traditional cities with its reliance on waterways. Trains, trams, and buses don’t operate within the city, instead arriving at Piazzale Roma in northwestern Venice. Once in the city, water transportation takes the lead.
The Vaporetto, or “Waterbus” in Italian, managed by ACTV, is Venice’s primary public transport. These waterbuses, like Line 1 along the Grand Canal and Line 12 to Marco Polo Airport, form the backbone of the transit network, navigating the canals and linking Venice to its surrounding islands. This indispensable mode of transport enables travelers to explore the city and reach its numerous attractions.
